One USB-C port on the MacBook does not work while the others do.
Test the same cable/device on another port and gently inspect the exterior without metal tools. Different behavior between ports helps separate an accessory issue from the port or internal path.

HDMI is connected from the MacBook but there is no picture on the external display.
Check the display input, power, and a cable/adapter compatible with the Mac model, then isolate the display and cable. If the Mac still cannot detect the display, the video/port path needs diagnostics.

HDMI shows video but sound does not go to the TV.
Check Sound Output and select the display/TV if it supports audio. Video without audio does not automatically mean the HDMI or USB-C port is damaged.

A USB-C hub is not working on the MacBook.
Test the accessory directly where possible, and try another hub or hub power source if required. The fault can be the hub, cable, power, or Mac port.

An external drive is not recognized by the MacBook.
Try another cable and port and connect directly without a hub, then check Disk Utility. If the drive also fails on other computers, the drive itself may be the issue.
