Apple lists the 2020 MacBook Air M1 with a 13.3-inch Retina display and the redesigned 2022 MacBook Air M2 with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display. The 2025 M4 and 2026 M5 13-inch Air models also have 13.6-inch displays. '13-inch' is the product-size label; it does not identify a unique chip or year, and the extra 0.3 inch alone is not a buying decision. Confirm the exact Mac model in About This Mac, then compare memory, storage, ports, camera, external-display needs, battery condition if pre-owned, and the current total offer. The current M5 may suit a new purchase; consider an older Air only if an eligible listing actually exists and its condition, price, stock and the written one-year warranty terms shown for that exact eligible listing make the full offer worthwhile. What do 13, 13.3 and 13.6 inches mean?
Apple calls both generations '13-inch MacBook Air' while specifying a 13.3-inch diagonal for M1 (2020) and a 13.6-inch diagonal for M2 (2022) and the 13-inch M4 (2025) and M5 (2026). The screen is measured diagonally; the newer display has rounded top corners, so actual viewable area is less than a full 13.6-inch rectangle. The label by itself does not prove that a device is newer, nor does a '13.3-inch MacBook' prove it is an Air: the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro (2022) also has a 13.3-inch screen.

Open Apple menu > About This Mac and verify the exact model, chip and year against Apple's model-identification page. For a listing, match those details with the actual unit and its RAM and SSD, not merely 'MacBook Air 13'. The 2022 M2 redesign introduced a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, MagSafe 3 and a 1080p camera; M1 (2020) has a 13.3-inch Retina display, USB-C charging through its two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports and a 720p camera. Current M5 specifications list a 13.6-inch display, MagSafe 3, Thunderbolt 4, a 12MP Center Stage camera, 16GB base memory and 512GB base SSD. These are model specifications, not a guarantee of any shop configuration or battery runtime for a used unit.

If the listing says Pro 13 or M4 vs M5
A 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro (2022) also has a 13.3-inch screen. Use the existing Air-versus-Pro guide's older Pro 13 section to compare its family and year with current Air or Pro. Use the M4-versus-M5 guide when both offers are Air from 2025 and 2026. Neither case should be decided from the rounded '13-inch' label.
